Montessori Teaching Method

The Montessori Method

“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.” ~ Dr. Maria Montessori

An Authentic Montessori School

Boston’s South Shore offers an abundance of choices for families seeking quality placement for preschool-aged children and Kindergarteners. You may have arrived at Elements Montessori by searching traditional terms such as daycare, childcare centers, nursery schools, and private preschools. Elements is faithful to Dr. Montessori’s philosophies and early childhood development theories. We are happy to answer any questions that you may have about our program as well as what it means to be an authentic Montessori school.

Montessori schools are enjoying a surge of interest as more and more parents and educators alike acknowledge the importance of early childhood education. In response, some daycares have taken to calling themselves Montessori schools, and because the name, "Montessori" has never been copyrighted, it has become an exercise in "buyer beware". Prospective Montessori families should know what they are looking for when researching Montessori schools.

Holistic and Nurturing

At Elements, we are pleased to provide a holistic and nurturing approach to early childhood education. We nurture our children’s minds and bodies while cultivating grace and courtesy. In the Montessori curriculum, grace is defined as how one handles themselves within their environment, while courtesy is how we interact with others. We foster an appreciation for the power of community, care of the environment, and a lifelong love for learning. Our children are encouraged to think critically, make thoughtful decisions, and resolve conflict peacefully and with a regular voice. Elements Montessori brings harmony to the process of early childhood education.

Cultivating Kindness and Respect

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the education of children was the key to a peaceful existence. Having survived two world wars, she theorized that children were the redeeming hope of civilization. Montessori believed that their education was the method through which world peace could be achieved. She asserted that if a child was able to develop at their own pace, then their tendency would be to exhibit joy, understanding and acceptance, and this would lead to a more peaceful society.

Montessori observed that when children were treated with respect, including being encouraged to pursue their own interests, they were more likely to accept the differences of others as well as find an inner peace that helped them become more fulfilled learners. At Elements, the children are actively involved in establishing the ground rules of their classroom. Each child is acknowledged as an individual and is welcome to pursue their own interests, within our previously agreed upon, non-negotiable ground rules. The work period is uninterrupted. We treat one another with respect and kindness.

Our mission is simple. World peace, one child at a time.
